Scans

Evan squeezed Kass’ hand lightly, leaning in close to her ear.

“It’s going to be fine, no reason to be nervous.” he said softly, pressing a soft kiss to her temple as Jen walked in.

“Morning you two, give me just a moment and we can get started.” Jen said, smiling at them as she adjusted some dials and knobs on the ultrasound machine.

“How have you been feeling, Kass any morning sickness or anything?” she asked, glancing at Kass.

“No, I’ve been pretty lucky actually. Evan’s been making sure I eat and get enough rest too, which I’m sure helps.” Kass laughed softly, squeezing Evan’s hand.

“That’s good, rest and food is very important.” Jen said, with a chuckle, before helping Kass lie back.

Kass cringed as the cold gel hit her skin, making Evan press a reassuring kiss to her forehead.

“Sorry.” Jen said, with an apologetic shrug.

Jen quickly twisted a few dials a steady whooshing sound filling the room. Evan’s head whipped around as fuzzy images started to fill the screen, his jaw dropping slightly.

“Wow…” he said, blinking rapidly as he watched as Jen adjusted some settings and the picture gradually became clearer.

Kass glanced at him and grinned.

“Are you going to be okay flyboy?”

Evan nodded and glanced at her.

“Yeah, yeah I am. I mean I was there when my sister had her scans, with Nathan but this…it’s different.”

Kass squeezed his hand lightly, glancing back at the screen.

“Yeah it is flyboy, yeah it is.”

“Okay, so we’ve got a good strong heart beat,” Jen said, pointing to a fluttering spot on the screen. Sliding her finger along to another point she traced a line.

“Here’s an arm and hand, and over here’s another arm and hand, all 10 fingers.” she paused for a moment, taking a couple of measurements and snapping a couple photos.

Jen moved the probe slightly and pointed to the screen again.

“Here are two little legs and feet, ten little toes.” she paused again, taking some more measurements and pictures before moving on again.

“Nice looking spine,” Jen traced a long line as she moved the probe, “last but not least we have a head. Here’s a chin, nose, and eyes.” she paused chuckling, “here’s the mouth, and looks like someone is tired.”

Evan frowned and looked at her.

“Tired? How can you tell, Doc?”

Jen chuckled again, “someone was yawning.” she said with a grin.

Evan chuckled and then glanced at Kass when he heard a soft sniffle.

“Is something the matter honey?” he asked softly reaching up and wiping a tear from her cheek.

Kass shook her head, grinning at him.

“No, no everything is great.” she said, with a smile.

“Then what has you crying?” he asked, leaning in close to her.

Kass laughed softly.

“Everything is just so great right now…” she said trailing off as Jen handed her some tissues.

“Okay, I’ve got everything I need, do either of you have any questions?” Jen asked, with a grin.

“Uh, well can you tell if it’s a boy or a girl?” Evan asked eyes on the screen.

Jen gave him an apologetic look and shook her head.

“I’m afraid it’s still too early, but give it another few weeks and we might be able to tell.” she said, as she shut down the machine, handing over the pictures.

Evan nodded as he helped Kass get up.

“Okay, we’ll see you in a couple weeks for another check then, Doc.” he said pocketing the pictures.

“Sounds good and just remember- plenty of food and rest.” Jen chided as she watched them leave.
